BEACON (11 December 2008) - A combination of heavy rains and dropping temperatures resulting in a very icy bridge just after 8am on Thursday morning. At 8:16am, Engine 33-11 and Rescue 33-55 were dispatched for a multi-car auto accident on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. Upon arrival of Car 33-1 (Chief Joseph), he reported a multi-car accident with what appeared to be only minor injuries.
When all was said and done, the accident totaled 15 vehicles which included a Tractor-Trailer and a Fuel Truck. All injuries were minor, however there were 8 patients in total. The accident also resulted in both spans of the bridge being shut down until the accident was cleared and salt could be placed on the roadway.
