BEACON (12 Aug 2005) - Early Friday morning, a City of Beacon Police Officer on his routine patrol discovered a structure fire at a vacant factory on Tioronda Avenue. The factory, formally the Tuct Tape Factory, was in the process of demolition and only half of it was still standing at the time of fire.

A first alarm assignment was transmitted at 02:47. Upon arrival of 33-1 (Chief Joseph), heavy fire was visible from the 4 story tower located at the front of the 200 x 50 3 story factory. At this time the chief made the determination that only an exterior operation will be used due to the building being thorn down.

A second alarm assignment was then dispatched bringing Village of Fishkill's Quint as the FAST Team and Rescue 33-55 to the scene. Also bringing Rombout and Glenham to the city for station covers. Also at this time Tower Ladder 33-45 was set up with its Master Stream for the exterior operation.

Soon after Rombout Tower Ladder 62-45 and Glenham's engine were redirected to the scene to assist in the exterior operation. In addition, Village of Wappinger's ladder and a Chelsea Engine were special called to the city for covers.

Both City of Beacon's and Rombout's Tower Ladders were used to extinguish the fire which took about a hour to extinguish. No injuries were reported, however several squatters were taken out of the structure during the primary search of the unburned section of the structure. The fire is currently under investigation by the City Fire Investigation Unit.
